Mia's First Surgery

After several ear infections and different types of antibiotics  Mia's pediatrician decided it was time to refer her to an ENT. At six months old, Mia was the youngest baby her pediatrician has ever referred to an ENT. The ENT recommended that Mia have tubes put in her ears because after being on three different antibiotics pretty much back to back the ear infection just wasn't going away. Since we were scheduled to fly to Chicago the following month, they got us on the schedule within a week.

On November 15th my little baby had her first surgery, I know in the grand scheme of surgeries having tubes put in is no big deal but it was still anesthesia and my baby. That day was pretty crazy, she was scheduled for 2:00 p.m. and then we were told to get there at 1:00 because they were ahead of schedule. However, they didn't end up taking her back until after 2:00. Considering she couldn't eat or drink anything after Midnight, she was doing pretty well. Everyone said the surgery would only take a few minutes and the doctor would be coming to get us before we had a chance to really get settled in the waiting room. It was about half an hour before the doctor came out so I was getting a little concerned. It turns out that even though her ears looked better on the surface once the doctor got in there, they were still pretty infected and he had to keep suctioning stuff out. Everything went well while she was in surgery and she tolerated the anesthesia fine. I am happy to report after five infections in three months she has only had two in six months that were cleared right up after a day of antibiotic drops!

Post-surgery supply shopping, Mia sat in the cart like a big girl for the first time.

Waiting to be called back and hungry!

Back at home, passed out after her surgery.

The next morning she was back to her usual, happy little self!

Fairy Photo Shoot

In November I took Mia to have fairy pictures done at Fairy Portrait Studios. I wasn't sure how they would turn out given her age, but I loved the ones on their website. We went with LeeAnn and Rylie (whose pictures turned out gorgeous), you can see Rylie's pictures here. I think that if Mia hadn't been teething we would have gotten better pictures, but she was not in a good mood at all. I would like to take Mia back when she is older, because I think that he has some amazing effects! Here is a link to Mia's Fairy Photo Shoot.

Mia's Six Month Professional Pictures

It probably would have been nice if I had blogged about her professional pictures when they were done, but you all know I am a bit of a slacker in this area. So here are her professional pictures taken by Amanda at Premier Photography, Inc, you can check her work out on Facebook as well. We just love Amanda, personally and professionally, and can not recommend her enough! I will post some of my favorites here and you can click here to see the rest!

Halloween 2012

Halloween was such a fun day(until I ended up curled up on Amy's couch w/a fever). Mia wore a festive outfit to daycare and then got festive hair once she was there! Mia was a bumblebee for Halloween and Michael was the Joker, we took the kids trick or treating in Amy and Tom's neighborhood.

Pumpkin Patch 10/28

We had the pleasure of joining our friends, LeeAnn and Brian, and their kids for their annual trip to the pumpkin patch. Mia was a little under the weather(major barfing at the restaurant we all met at), so I wasn't sure how our trip was going to go. Rick & I figured we would head to the pumpkin patch with them and see how she did, if she was sick again we would head back home.

Luckily, Mia didn't get sick again, but she definitely wasn't her normal smiley self. Since Mia loves being outside and adores Rylie, I think she had a good time. LeeAnn bought matching dresses for the girls to wear for pictures(and a tie for Bryce) and they were adorable! To see LeeAnn's summary of the day and the pictures that she took of all the kiddos visit her blog. Here are a few of the pictures I took that day(my camera battery died almost immediately so these are taken with my cell phone):

Pumpkin Patch 10/21

Shelly and I took Mia to her first Pumpkin Patch at HorsePower for Kids October 21st. Her admission was free and mine was very reasonable and included a hot dog and soda. All of the money goes right back to helping local kids, so it's a worthy cause as well. Mia really wasn't interested in the animals and couldn't go in the bounce house or ride a pony, but she had a blast playing with the pumpkins. We met Sara and Amelia there, Amelia is four months older than Mia and was much more mobile. It was a fun day for all! If you want to see all of the pictures, click here. Here are some of my favorite pictures from our adventure:

Fall Festival 2012

Mia's daycare had a Fall festival in October, the infant room was asked to dress up as farm animals as that was what they were currently learning about. I found an adorable little pig costume, so that's what Mia went as. We also had our first "homework" to do. A paper went home with suggestions for fall projects, I tossed it thinking that they surely didn't expect six month olds to do this. Well, two days before it was due her teacher reminded me that the project was due in two days. What?! Crap. So, I rushed to Target and bought art supplies. Here is Mia's first home art project:

The trunk is her hand and arm, she scrunched up her hand so the branches aren't exactly fanning out, haha. Lots of different colored messy fingers made this picture possible. Obviously I had to put some of the finishing touches on it, we had a lot of fun!

Now what I know you've really been waiting for, the piggy pictures!

Heading home, she had a great time!
