The Name Game

Selecting a name for your child is no small feat.  Some lucky people decided on the names for their future children when they themselves were barely more than children (and their spouses happened to like them as well...or at least didn't hate them enough to veto them). We did not have any pre-selected names and soon discovered that between the size of our families and the number of people we know with children, finding a name that wasn't already spoken for would not be easy. Rick & I started a small list of names prior to knowing the baby's gender, I say small because there were not a lot of names that we both liked...shocking, I know! Once we found out we were having a girl, that narrowed our list even further.  However, our girl list was surprisingly longer than our boy list.  We crossed off a couple more names over the next few weeks until one day we got the list back out and we both selected the same name as our favorite....

Stay tuned for her middle name...

Ultrasound Pictures

I couldn't wait for my first ultrasound on September 1st with my RE.  I wasn't quite sure what to expect to see, but I knew it was the final step in confirming my pregnancy. Here is our little girl at 6 weeks 5 days:

As you can see she is more yolk sac than baby. I was a little nervous at first until I was told that everything looked great for how early we were in the pregnancy.

On September 12th, I had my first OB appointment. I just thought there would be lots of paperwork(and there was) and bloodwork, etc. so Rick did not go with me to this appointment.  I was surprised to find out that they wanted to do an ultrasound as well to confirm to them that everything was right on track with my pregnancy.  Here is our little girl at 8 weeks 2 days:

On October 10th, I had my NT scan scheduled which entails a high resolution ultrasound where they measure the space behind the baby's neck(nuchal fold). I was told that her measurement was well within the normal range, so that was one little sigh of relief.  Here is our little girl at 12 weeks 2 days, she looks like a baby now:

On November 2nd I had an impromptu visit to the doctor, everything turned out fine thank goodness. They wanted to do an ultrasound just to be sure and the tech asked if we wanted to know the sex of the baby. I said yes so she put the gender reveal photo in a sealed biohazard bag(she was out of envelopes!) for me to take home and open with Rick. This is what we saw that night:

We were very excited to learn we were having a little girl. I was quite surprised, I admit. With Rick having two sons already and Randy with a son and Ron with a son and the lone girl, it just seemed the Kasnow men were low on Y's...but we found one!

One evening Rick asked me about 3D ultrasounds and if I would be interested in having one prior to Thanksgiving to get some more/better pics of the baby to share. Of course, I jumped at the chance to see and hear her again! So on November 19th we went to Look Who's Kickin' and had a 3D ultrasound. As she was still pretty small we didn't get the greatest 3D pictures, but we did get a few nice keepsake photos and plan to go back later in the pregnancy for more.  Here are a couple of pictures from that day, she is 18 weeks here:

If you need help with the first one(most do), she has her hands in little fists on either side of her face...see her now?

Since I'm apparently OLD...,ok, ok...the "technical" term is AMA or Advanced Maternal Age, I get to see a Perinatologist or high risk OB.  On November 29th I met with my Peri and had a Level 2 ultrasound for my anatomy scan. Basically, this is the appointment where they measure the baby's limbs and organs to make sure everything is within the normal range.  Thankfully, she passed with flying colors and of course we got a couple more pictures to add to our collection. Here she is at 19 weeks 3 days:

She's already telling us that SHE is number 1!

That's all for now, hope you enjoy the pics as much as we do!

I’ve been saying for quite some time that I was going to start a blog to keep friends and family up to date on the new and exciting events happening with our family.  I have been thinking of clever ways to get this started, however, as those of you who know me well, know, creative I am not! So here goes nothing, I hope that I don’t bore you or drive anyone batty with my amazing passable writing skills.

Now onto the juicy stuff… as you all know I am pregnant. What some of you may or may not know is that we have been hoping for this for quite some time. In August when I saw the magic word “pregnant” on the HPT we were both excited and anxious all at the same time. It seemed like forever until we had confirmation from my doctor that we were indeed adding to our family.  We heard our baby’s heartbeat for the first time on September 1st, it was an amazing day and I'm not going to lie, tears were shed!  On November 2nd we found out that we are having a little girl, another wonderful day!

Those are the highlights of the last few months. If I had started blogging earlier on you would have gotten to read about all of my hormone-induced emotional highs and lows, not to worry though, I’m sure there will be many more to come so stay tuned!
